7.2-magnitude earthquake in Hualien Taiwan, tsunami warning issued in Okinawa, Japan

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in the sea area off Hualien, Taiwan. Tsunami warnings have been issued on the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyakojima, and coastal residents have been asked to evacuate.

Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said that at 7:58 am, a felt earthquake occurred 25 kilometers off Hualien County, located in the eastern sea area of Taiwan. The depth of the earthquake is 15.5 kilometers, and coastal areas should be on guard against sudden changes in sea levels.

There was also a distinct tremor in Taipei.

Strong earthquakes were also recorded in Japan, and the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the islands of Okinawa, Miyakojima, and Yaeyama Islands.
