The US Senate passed the mandatory divestiture of TikTok from its parent company.

The US Congress Senate voted to pass the mandatory divestiture of TikTok from its parent company, ByteDance. President Biden will sign the bill local time tomorrow.


The bill was passed by 79 votes to 18. The relevant bill was bundled with the bills on aiding Ukraine, Israel, and Asia and was approved together.


The House of Representatives passed the bill requiring TikTok to be divested from its parent company last month in the middle of the month, but the deadline is only half a year. The Houses of Representatives and the Senate then negotiated and agreed to extend the sale deadline to a maximum of one year.
