Effects of the strong earthquake in Hualien on TSMC: The recovery rate of equipment in the chip factory exceeds 70%

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred off the coast of Hualien in Taiwan on Wednesday morning, followed by several aftershocks. TSMC said in the evening that the recovery rate of equipment in the chip factory has exceeded 70%, and the recovery rate of the newly built chip factories such as Fab 18 has exceeded 80%.

TSMC said that the maximum intensity of Wednesday's earthquake in the Hsinchu, Longtan, and Jhunan science parks reached level 5, and the maximum intensity in the Taichung and Tainan science parks was level 4.

TSMC pointed out that a few devices in some factory areas were damaged, which affected the production of some production lines, but the main machines, including all extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment, were not damaged.
